Chennai: A businessman was kidnapped at knife-point in broad daylight in Neelankarai this morning. According to police sources, Prasad (45) who runs a department store on Pandiyan Salai, Neelankarai, had come to the shop in the morning with his staff Jancy and Inba.

Later, at around 10 am, when Inba stepped out of the store, seven men came in an SUV and instructed Prasad to get into the vehicle, all the time threatening him with a knife. Even though Jancy raised an alarm, they bundled Prasad into the car and took off. Following this, Deputy Commissioner Kannan and other officials visited the spot.

It is said the vehicle took the ECR route, and though the number had been noted, police suspect it could be a fake one. The police is now probing the case. Prasad, a native of Thoothukudi, lived in Gandhi Nagar in Adyar. He also owns four lorries and a fishing boat.
