CM announces Rs 4 lakh each to 29 flood victims
Chennai: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced Rs 4 lakh each as solatium to the families of 29 persons who lost their lives in rain-related incidents in the State.
In a statement, she mentioned the names of the victims who belonged to various areas, including Chennai and Kanchipuram. She also expressed her deep condolence to the bereaved families. "I have ordered to immediately give Rs 4 lakh per victim to next of kin from the Disaster Relief Fund," she said.
She announced further sops for the rain-ravaged districts of Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and Cuddalore, including providing 2,000 tonnes of bleaching powder and one crore chlorine tablets to citizens for health safeguards.
Jayalalithaa said domestic consumers of electricity in these affected districts need not pay their power bills this month and can do so by January 31, 2016 and that no penalty will be levied for delay.
Further, the government will provide safety accessories to scores of sanitary workers involved in clearing the debris left behind by the floods even as they will be administered preventive vaccines, she said.
