CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday asked students to be cautious about those spreading fake news.

He also appealed to the student community not to waste their golden time on websites, WhatsApp and small and big screens. Palaniswami said WhatsApp, websites and others should be used only for expanding one's knowledge.

Delivering his special address on the occasion of the Dodransbicentennial (175th year) celebrations of Pachaiyappa's College here, the chief minister asked students to believe only in authentic news.

He said glorified fake news might woo them. "Poliyana avadhoorana seithigal alangaramaga ungalai vandhu maiakoodum (Attractive fake and malicious news may come to you)," the chief minister said, adding that the students should not fall prey to it.
