Family seeks permission to euthanise teenaged son
COIMBATORE: A family petitioned the Coimbatore collector on Wednesday seeking permission to euthanise their 17-year-old son.
G Manimeghalai dragged her son, G Jaikishan, who refused to co-operate with her, to submit the petition. "I cannot take this torture anymore, I am fed up and I want him to die. It's been 12 years since I went out. He refuses to stay calm. Though I am his mother, I want him to be killed," said Manimeghalai, who stays near Theppakulam Maidhan. She also said that Jaikishan troubles her aged parents.
"We admitted him to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) in Chennai, Snehalaya in Pollachi and various other institutions for special children across Tamil Nadu. However, he was always sent back," Manimeghalai said.
Speaking about his condition, she said Jaikishan was not born with a mental problem.
"When he was 5, he suffered from fever, after which he started behaving this way. We thought he would recover, but he's now 17. His condition is getting worse by the day," Manimeghalai said.
As the collector was not available, the family met officials of the social welfare department, who assured them that Jaikishan would be sent to a home.
