Why should I apologise? And to whom?: Vijayakanth
DMDK leader Vijayakanth, speaking at a demonstration organised by his party carde. Mr. Vijaykant alleged that the assessment of flood damage and compensation for agricultural crops has been tardy in the delta districts. ?How can a farmer be adequately compensated with just Rs. 4,500 per acre? The State government should have given Rs. 25,000 per acre as compensation,? he added.
Mr. Vijaykanth asked what the government proposed to do with Rs. 26,000 crore that had been demanded from the Centre as flood relief.
?What happened to the proposal to construct check-dams in six places across the Coleroon? Had that plan materialised, rivers cleared of wild growth and channels properly desilted, the huge quantum of flood water that flowed wastefully into the seas might have been prevented. Then we need don't need to beg for water with neighbouring states,? he reasoned.
He dismissed demands for apology from sections of the media for his act of spitting at them. ?Why should I apologise? And to whom? If I had committed any mistake, then I apologise only to the people and to none else,? he said.
