Dhanush responds to criticism over National Award
Actor Dhanush has addressed criticism surrounding his National Film Award for Raayan, saying he understands why many viewers believe other films from last year were stronger contenders.
Following the announcement of the National Film Awards, several fans and critics argued that films such as Meiyazhagan and Maharaja deserved greater recognition. The debate also led to criticism of Dhanush’s award-winning performance in Raayan.
Reacting to the discussion, Dhanush said he personally admired films like Meiyazhagan and Maharaja and acknowledged that many people considered them superior. However, he also pointed out that several of his earlier performances had gone unrecognized despite receiving widespread appreciation over the years.
He cited films including Pudhupettai, Vada Chennai, Karnan, Maryan and the Hindi film Raanjhanaa, saying they were widely praised but did not receive National Awards.
According to Dhanush, the current criticism contrasts with the silence that surrounded those earlier omissions. He remarked that while a large number of people are now questioning his award, far fewer had spoken up when his previous performances missed out on national recognition.
The actor added that award decisions are ultimately subjective, as artistic preferences differ from person to person.
