Jananayagan opens to grand celebrations across Tamil Nadu; Vijay fans turn release into a festival

Actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s much-awaited last film Jananayagan hit theatres worldwide, triggering massive celebrations across Tamil Nadu as fans and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) cadres marked the release with festival-like enthusiasm.

The film was released in around 1,000 theatres across Tamil Nadu, with many cinema halls witnessing packed shows from the early hours of the morning. Long queues were seen outside theatres well before dawn as fans gathered to watch the first-day-first-show.

Across several districts, TVK functionaries and Vijay fan clubs organised special celebrations, including drum performances, fireworks, milk abhishekams for giant cut-outs, cultural programmes and distribution of sweets. Many theatres were decorated with banners, flowers and party flags, creating a festive atmosphere.

In Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Salem, Tirunelveli and several other cities, enthusiastic supporters arrived wearing TVK scarves and T-shirts bearing Vijay’s image. Several fans described the release as an emotional occasion, with many calling it a celebration rather than just a film release.

Theatres reported full-capacity occupancy for the opening-day shows, with advance bookings remaining strong in most major centres. Cinema operators said the film had generated one of the biggest opening-day responses in recent years, driven by Vijay’s popularity among moviegoers and his growing political following.

Police personnel were deployed outside major theatres to regulate crowds and ensure smooth movement of the public. Security arrangements were strengthened at key cinema complexes that witnessed heavy footfall.

Several prominent personalities from the film industry and politics extended their wishes to the Jananayagan team on social media, while hashtags related to the film dominated online trends throughout the day.

Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, Jananayagan marks Vijay’s latest big-screen outing. The release has attracted widespread attention as it comes after his full-fledged entry into politics, making the film one of the most closely watched Tamil releases of the year.
