Until Dawn - Movie Review

As a passionate Until Dawn gamer, I was both excited and cautious walking into David F. Sandberg’s film adaptation — and thankfully, it delivers in most places, though not without a few stumbles.
Sandberg does a solid job capturing the chilling, snow-clad atmosphere of Blackwood Mountain. The movie stays true to the spirit of the game, especially with the tension between characters and the underlying "butterfly effect" idea. While it’s tough to recreate the player-driven experience on screen, the movie cleverly hints at choices without making it feel gimmicky.
The performances are decent, with a few standout moments of genuine fear and emotion. The Wendigos are brought to life impressively, though a bit more practical effects over CGI would've elevated the horror. Some parts of the movie do feel a little rushed, especially in the final act where the stakes could have been built up better.
For hardcore fans, it’s a nostalgic and satisfying ride, even if it doesn’t quite hit the emotional highs of the game. For general horror lovers, it’s a gripping enough survival thriller with some cool twists.
Verdict: A chilling ride that captures the spirit of the game — Until Dawn keeps you hooked, even if it misses a few steps.
