CB-CID police arrested dacoity in Panrutti
The CB-CID police have arrested a suspect allegedly involved in several cases of inter-State dacoity.
The confession by the accused Perumal alias Arun has also cracked the murder case of a pawn broker in Panruti in 2012 which had been handed over to the CB-CID. The CB-CID SP Nagajothi arrested him in Panrutti case on September 3 and took him into custody till September 9.
Sources said he was involved in 25 dacoity cases in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. He was earlier arrested in Sevvapet police case in 2002 in a murder for gain case. Then, he went absconding.
He confessed to have been involved in the dacoity along with 8 others hailing from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kallakurichi area. Perumal is suspected to be a part of Korava gang. Police have planned to conduct narco-analysis test on the accused to get more information in the case.
According to police, Perumal was involved in the murder of S. Shanmugam Chettiyar of Panrutti, Cuddalore. Shanmugam was murdered in Panrutti in 2011. At least 80 kg gold, one kg silver and Rs. 4.18 lakh stolen.
Panrutti police registered a murder for gain case but failed you to solve the case. Shanmugam Chettiyar's son Sakthivel approached Madras High Court seeking a CB-CID inquiry. The CB-CID took over the case in September 2013.
